Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees provides culturally appropriate programs that include Survival English classes, adult literacy, job searching skills and job negotiation skills to better prepare them for the job market while countering worker exploitation and anti-immigrant policy. Students in this program attend classes twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7 – 9 pm. Many of our participants are low-wage workers that are factory workers, home attendants, domestic workers, street vendors, restaurant workers, car wash workers and day laborers (of all sorts). Some are between jobs, looking for work and most are aiming to get better jobs.
