Over the past several years, we have seen a devastating trend where Haitian refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants have been given humanitarian parole terms that are essentially meaningless with insufficient time and resources to apply for work authorization which they are entitled to with humanitarian parole. This has left thousands of refugees vulnerable to labor exploitation and unable to support themselves without finding lawful employment. With research support from TakeRoot Justice, Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) conducted semi-structured interviews with members to document their experiences and issue recommendations. This report exposes the inhumanity of racist immigration policies and practices.
